Genes and Education and U.S. Seniors
Genes and Education and U.S. SeniorsU.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch's son, Christopher, is an aspiring politician, and U.S. Sen. Patty Murray's daughter, Caitlin, is studying the genetic factors behind speech and intelligence. The relationship between these two individuals, both of whom are from gifted families, raises some interesting and important questions that people involved in education may want to ask. Let's look at how genetics and education overlap.Genetics have long been considered a connection between education and success. Yes, some traits are passed down to us from our parents, and we can find genes linked to characteristics we inherit. But in general, your individualized nature will become molded by your environment, and the environment you are born into largely determines the environment you leave for your children. We also see genetic associations with breeder Siberian Genetics. Their kids come out with intelligence, math, and natural gift for language and art. In addition, thei r children often grow up to be famous celebrities. They and their parents seem to have some kind of connection between them.Of course, the child does not know that genetics is a factor. Their parents told them to read their horoscopes, and their parents told them their whole lives. But the mere idea that genetics is a factor in education is a shocking revelation to these young people. So, how can genetics and education intersect? Clearly, there are teachers who have a genetic predisposition toward certain behaviors. Indeed, it might not even be the teacher's choice, but genes are a factor that make some people more like to learn than others.A teacher is an individual self-experimenter. He or she becomes, through their own decision, who they are today. Some of the best teachers are those who take the time to build meaningful relationships with their students. Their study will create a self-fulfilling prophecy. If one parent chooses tutoring over grammar, then genetics is something a pe rson's education might do with changing. If the teacher becomes their favorite person in the world, then genetics might have played a role in his or her choice. Education may be completely genetic, if you choose a person's reading style over the reading style you were born with.

Troubleshooting Your Student
Troubleshooting Your Student Five reasons why your childâs grades may be suffering.Itâs the most frustrating, heart breaking thing in the world when your child is not thriving at their school and you donât know why. Here are the five most common reasons at the core of poor grades, and a few suggestions to course correct the issue. 1. Learning StylesWhile there are many types of learners, teachers are fairly limited in the methods they can use to teach a particular subject. Your student may favor a hands-on (kinesthetic) approach, but the teacher may only be able to accommodate for a lecture and a few examples, leaving your child lost in the woods, or simply bored. Fortunately, this particular issue is an easy fix. Depending on your childâs learning style, there are a variety of techniques to tutor any given subject. Youtube and Pinterest are great resources for educational games and ideas.2. Lack of EngagementEveryone has a subject they donât like. Either your student feels he or she has already mastered the subject and has no vested interest in the material, or the material simply is not interesting. If the first, schools often offer screening for gifted and talented programs. Psychology Today also offers some wonderful resources and insight on how to gauge if and how far your child is ahead of the curve. If the second, try to find a way to relate the subject to their interests. It might be hard to get a History buff to care about Math, but if they hear the story of the life and times of Pythagoras, they might be a little more inclined to crunch some numbers.3. Time ManagementLetâs be honest: even you procrastinate sometimes. Itâs hard to get excited about work when just outside your window itâs warm and sunny. Try introducing a routine and donât be afraid to add in 10-15 minute study breaks, maybe every hour or between subjects. After sitting through seven hours of school and two or three more hours of homework itâs easy to burn out. If you break up the work into parcels, itâs much easier to focus on the task at hand.4. DisorganizationHow do you study for a test when your dog has apparently eaten your notes with fava beans and a nice chianti? Set aside separate folders and notebooks for each subject and take a few minutes after homework and before bed organizing them. I t also helps to have designated pockets in your childâs backpack for certain supplies, such as pencils and pens in one area, cell phone and wallet in another. For the hard luck cases, some tutoring services, such as Frog Tutoring, also offer organizational assistance as part of their tutoring packages.5. Self-EsteemEducation is a self-fulfilling prophecy, but it is easy to get discouraged. Remind your student that there is no such thing as stupid; itâs only a matter of finding the best way to understand. Personal issues, such as bullying or major life events, may also affect how much focus he or she is putting on school. Generally speaking, the best way to solve these problems is to talk to and really listen to your child. About 90% of building a relationship with a student is just making sure that they understand that when they speak, they are heard. Note: This post was written by Megan Ybarra for FrogTutoring
5 things to know before teaching in Korea
5 things to know before teaching in Korea Experienced ESL teacher, Adrian, at Teach Away shares some essential insight into living and teaching in South Korea.1. Learn some basics of the Korean language. Even a few key phrases can go a long way when it comes to carrying out basic tasks and getting around. Take the time to study correct pronunciation. You wouldn't want to end up confusing a hot pepper for a part of the male anatomy. Trust me.2. Don't expect students, especially younger ones, to behave as they do in Western countries. Students are well-disciplined and friendly - not to say that they aren't in Western schools. But you may see students of the same gender sitting on each other's laps outside of class, or holding hands down the halls; a little friendlier than my school days I'd say.3. Take your job seriously and youâll be rewarded. You may find some foreign teachers are in Korea just for fun and not really focusing on student needs. Don't be phased by them. Korea is known for it's strong work ethic. Follow suit and your experience will flourish with your employers.4. Make the most of your free time. Anytime you're off from teaching, you should be taking advantage of the beautiful sites around Korea. Travel is cheap and easy. Whether visiting Jeju island for it's famous views and oranges, or a day trip into Seoul for late night shopping, there's never an excuse to be a shut in. 5. Mild food is still spicy. Better yet, there is no mild option in Korea. You'll either learn to love the spiciness of food in Korea, or quickly learn to, as I did. Not everything is spicy, but just be warned. Korean food is delicious, so donât be afraid to be adventurous.Find out more about teaching in Korea here and search for our current teaching positions in Korea here.

Starting the Job Search Where to Begin
Starting the Job Search Where to Begin Photo Via: Pixabay.com 1. Craft a Resume The first step in any job search is to craft your resume. While youâve likely been developing this over the course of your college career, this is something you will want to perfect before you begin applying to places. The best method for ensuring your resume is top-notch is to visit a workshop in which someone can look over your resume and give you pointers on whether or not itâs successful. Remember that crafting a resume is an art, and simply putting your experience on paper in a list isnât going to cut it, so be sure to seek help from someone with experience in that regard. 2. Scour Job Boards The job boards are going to be your best friend when you are looking to apply places. These are active postings that allow you to read through the job descriptions prior to applying and that donât require you to look into specific companies. These are great for finding positions you wouldnât have otherwise known about, which will, in turn, help you to expand your search. You donât want to limit yourself to one specific position or company, so these boards will help you open up other opportunities. 3. Develop a Targeted List In addition to scouring the job boards, you will also want to develop a targeted list of top companies you are interested in. There will not always be an opening at the company that you want to get into, but this is a great way to send over a resume in case any positions open up and get your name out there. Some companies will be receptive to this, others will not, but this targeted list will also help you to keep your mind open and ensure that youâre staying on top of any open positions at the companies that you want to work for. 4. Expand Your Title Search Many individuals pigeonhole themselves into one, specific job title. This is ultimately going to limit your search, as plenty of positions are out there that are essentially the same, but under a different title. When searching job boards, use different search strings to come up with alternative positions. Basically, keep an open mind in terms of what youâre looking for. If youâre joining the workforce immediately after college, youâre looking at entry-level openings anyway. For this reason, keep an open mind and remember that itâs about where youâre going rather than how you get your foot in the door. 5. Create Unique Cover Letters One of the biggest mistakes students make when applying to positions is to create a cover letter that isnât customized to the position. Essentially, when applying to a new position, your cover letter should speak to your experience as it relates to the job description at hand. Therefore, every cover letter should speak to the job youâre applying for, in a customized manner. Each application will require a different cover letter, so prepare a general idea of what you want to say ahead of time, then customize that content for each position. 6. Practice Interviewing Finally, and most importantly, you need to prepare for what comes after the application: the interview. While itâs impossible to entirely prepare for these, you can always practice interviewing to give yourself a competitive edge. Going into a first interview without practicing is a risk, and itâs better to ask a friend or family member to mock interview you so that you are ready for difficult questions and know how to act under pressure. You can also visit a workshop that specializes in interview prep to help prepare yourself a little more. Again, hunting for a job isnât an easy task, and itâs a process that can be rather frustrating to begin. When youâre applying for the first time, it can be even more challenging, as you donât have any previous knowledge to work with. These first six steps are a great starting point to get you pointed in the right direction to ease some of that frustration. Plus, who knows, maybe these six steps could be the difference between you and your dream job! Good luck everyone and happy hunting!

Pearson Chemistry - Know Your Chemistry With Pearsons Online Textbook
Pearson Chemistry - Know Your Chemistry With Pearson's Online TextbookPearson Chemistry is a brand of education materials that has become the standard for grade-school science textbooks. Many teachers will only recommend this to students who have already completed high school, because it is so beneficial. While it is true that it is an old school textbook, the high-quality writing, and the constant updates that they update it every few years to make it worth your investment. The book has many different formats that you can choose from, but my personal favorite is the instructional text which is a microcosm of the textbook that you would use in class. It includes videos, pictures, text, and activity sheets. These can be used with virtually any format that you have available. This textbook can be used by individuals, or it can be used for a whole classroom. Since most of the subjects covered in a class are covered in the textbook, the students should find that they are learning much more effectively and also have an easier time reading the material. Another benefit is that this text is basically free. The other benefit is that there are many different options that you can select when purchasing your own text book.If you're interested in purchasing a Pearson textbook, I would recommend that you look at all of the different books that they offer. They have several different price points, but I personally would recommend going for the most expensive option. When you are looking for your own chemistry textbook, I would recommend that you go for the most expensive option, so that you can get the best out of your purchase. For graduate level chemistry texts, the cost of these books is usually far higher than the other options. However, there are actually two different versions of these books. There is the traditional text which you would use in the classroom, and then there is a version that is used for private homeschooling. While they are quite popular among high school students, Pearson's textbooks are also known for their cost. Students who have never had a chance to take one before will really have to investigate the option of getting their own. Many people think that the price of this book is ridiculous, but these people simply do not understand the value of a quality text.Pearson has offered this textbook to students since the early 1990s, and they are continuously updating it and changing the content. Overall, Pearson Chemistry is a good investment and will save you time and money by ensuring that you always have the best chemistry text available.
